The Hellenic Society Prometheas is a social and cultural not-for-profit organization established in 1978. Its goals are to promote the ideals of Hellenic culture both ancient and modern, and to provide its members with a forum and mechanism to pursue matters of common interest.
Accomplishments
Prometheas has organized hundreds of events over the last three decades. Most have been sponsored solely by Prometheas, while others have been held in cooperation with other Hellenic organizations in the Washington metropolitan area. One of Prometheas' major accomplishments has been the establishment of Greek Independence Day, March 25, as a community-wide celebration in the area. Many regional, professional, academic and student organizations participate actively, making this celebration the largest and most important event of the year.
Activities
Prometheas sponsors a wide variety of events each year, from lectures on topics related to the land, history, politics and culture of both classical and contemporary Greece to concerts highlighting Greek vocal and instrumental music. The society also sponsors several annual social gatherings to bring its members together, such as a Greek Letters Day celebration complete with a traditional vasilopitta cake and a formal Masquerade Ball held each spring.

Prometheas is managed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors, who are elected biannually. Current board members are:
